Reflective Writing 3

Reflective Writing 3

One of our courses I took this semester is applied ethics. In this course I have learned many things such as dilemma and it is a new word for me that I learned in this course, the meaning of dilemma is when you stuck between two choices in one situation and you have to choose one of them. Every choice you make has a consequence and you have to know is it good or bad and we learned about how not to influence other people ideas into ours or ours into theirs. And in this course I have learned a new experience by volunteering on ZHO. While I was volunteering there I learned how to deal with students that have different physical or mental issues and how they study and how to help them. ZHO experience affects me in my life and change my look to disabled people. In conclusion this course was very interesting and it helped me a lot in my life.

I have done 12 hours of volunteering in Zayed Higher Organization with my classmates, and we were helping students who were physically or mentally challenged. I always thought out everything thoroughly before doing anything in Zayed Higher Organization, I think based on what I learnt from the course so far I’m pretty sure the theory that describes me the best would be Consequentialist theory, because my head was always full of questions of what might happened if I did this or I did that, therefore the logical explanation would be that I’m a Consequentialist person. This course has enhanced me with how to deal with different situations ethically, and I learnt that there are many different types of ethical theories and how to choose the right one. After all this experience I got from the course and from Zayed Higher Organization, It’s safe to say that I’m able to understand more on how people behave,  but you can never really understand them fully.

Reflective Writing 1

Reflective Writing 1
Two years ago my cousin Abdullah got his driving license and he ask me to go to Dubai with him. It was the first time he drive outside the city to go to Dubai and he didn’t know who to get there but I was with him so I helped him. After a couple of hours we were in our way back home, while we were chatting we lost our way and found our self in Ajman. We stop the car in the side of the road and tried to ask other drivers about the road but no one stop, after a few minutes a car stopped and the driver guided us to the right way. In our way back I saw a car stopping at the side of the road because he had a flat tire. In this situation I had two choices; the first choice was leave him alone so maybe someone will help him. Or stop and help him because it is the right thing and we were looking for help before and we got the help we need. So I told my cousin to stop and we went to help him and the guy was alone and he didn’t know how to replace the tire, when we checked the spare tire it wasn’t in a good condition so we waited with him because he called his friends and they brought him a good tire. I made this choice because it is the right thing to do and if no one stopped for that guy he maybe will not help others in future. After 5 to 10 years I will start thinking about decisions I made in the past, was it right or wrong but for this situation I think I did the right thing. I think this situation belongs to level 6 in Kohlberg stages because it is the right thing in my opinion.
